Time, Space, Envy, Soul, Chaos, Love, God, Charisma, Hate, Hope, Beauty..

Many people claim that they do not understand non-figurative art, but could anyone really understand the abstract?

It has always puzzled my imagination; how human mind works its way to force abstract words and pictures into something concrete. We have tendency to give understandable meaning even to those subjects and objects which do not have it.

For a painter, abstract is fascinating to work with. It is an interesting challenge to paint pictures about absolutely nothing. When an artist is no longer obligated to imitate reality, or impression or perception of it, the painting process becomes goalless creativity. It is, what it is. Painting with paint and process.

When abstract painting is getting a name - magic happens. Nothing becomes something from a faint personal reflection, connection, or a feeling. If the name is yet to be removed, the picture returns back to its original nothingness.

I started this project of small abstract paintings in 2017, while studying art in University of Heartfordshire, England. The oldest paintings in this exhibition are from that period. Pictures of Nothing is my abstract diary.

All these paintings are created with oil colours on the black acrylic base.

I like the artistic process to be somehow seen in the finished artworks as layers and marks from the creative journey. Important to me are the wide palette of colours, dialog between shades and abstract shapes, illusions of depth and surface and the rhythm and lines of my free brush strokes.

Pictures of Nothing aims to experiment and discover limitless possibilities of abstract painting. The Picture is finished when it looks good or interesting. When I have absolutely nothing to remove from or add to it.

I think the best way to open up to abstract art is to paint it. Maybe that is the reason why I started. Pictures of Nothing is an ongoing process.
